BAY CITY, MI – Once the bats get booming, there’s no stopping ‘em.
A&W and Gephart Funeral Home revved up their lineups and put the bats into action, pounding out big victories on Day 2 of the 59th annual Bay County Little League Championship.
The tourney that gathers the top two teams from each of Bay County’s four Little League programs continues with 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. games each night through Friday and concludes with the title game at noon Saturday at Bay City Southwest’s Kolb Field.
A&W 14, Bay Landscaping 4
Bay County Eastside champion A&W showed its punch, rapping 16 hits en route to a 14-4 victory over Essexville-Hampton champion Bay Landscaping.
A&W plated nine first-inning runs in the win. Adalyn Zanotti led the charge with two triples and a double for three RBIs. Abe Blaskowski and Trevor Sowinski also Brooks Running Shoes added three hits and Luka Neering tallied two. Carter Bublitz, Brayden Schmidt, Max Wetters, Dylan Heidtman and Diego Velasquez all joined in the hitting fun.
Aiden Schultz, Brady Irrer, Gage Jones and Kwess Mathews each knocked a base hit for Bay Landscaping.
Gephart Funeral Home 13, Party Dock 1
It was a nip-and-tuck contest until the fifth inning when Gephart Funeral Home broke loose for an eight-run outburst in the 13-1 victory.
Hugh Ruff set the tone with three hits for the Southwest squad. Hudson Giorgis, Ian Schilb and Lucas Short each knocked two hits in the victory while Cole Goik, Carter Hollister and Alec Revette added one apiece. Ruff and Goik pitched well in the Gephart win.
Brody Balenda and Koltin Heppner each had an hit for Northwest’s Party Dock.
