After a long day of work, many people fantasize about a nice meal, maybe a glass of wine, or cuddling with their S.O. For me, it’s putting on my favorite pair of Oofos Slides. These podiatrist-approved, celeb-adored sandals are popular among athletes and nurses for their recovery benefits — and beloved by my mom and I for their comfort.
I first came across the Oofos Canada Slide Sandals when I saw on Shape that Jennifer Lawrence wore them while bopping around with her adorable baby bump. I read that the sleek slip-on shoes are made from Oofos’ proprietary Oofoam technology, which allows the shoe to absorb 37 percent more impact than your average pair of foam footwear, according to the brand, giving your feet a load off while you’re walking around. My mom had been on the hunt for comfortable sandals for a while, and after reading the article, she decided to give these a shot — and so did I.
Along with JLaw’s endorsement, I was particularly impressed by all the comments on the article’s Instagram post about how effective these shoes are. Celebrity trainer Kira Stokes, choreographer Chloe Arnold, and Olympic skier Ashley Caldwell all sang the praises of the slides, calling them a “game-changer for recovery.” And after wearing them consistently for three months, I can see why.
Oofos Ooahh Slide Sandals Key Features
- How I tested: I wore them after every workout at least 3x a week for 3 months.
- Perfect for: Gym-lovers who need to add recovery to their routine, or someone looking for more comfort at home.
- What you’ll love: The shoes are machine-washable — just through them in on a gentle cycle and leave the shoes out to air dry.
- Keep in mind: These are recovery shoes and are primarily meant to be worn at home or for light errands. I’ve tripped a few times running to cross the street or while commuting because the lip of the shoe got caught when my feet were moving quickly.
- Sizing: I’m a size 9 and have fairly wide feet, and I felt the slides fit true to size because of the open-toe design. However, I’ve had to size up for a different Oofos pair.
Oofos Ooahh Slide Review
I consider myself very active; I do OrangeTheory Fitness twice a week (BTW, OrangeTheory got me out of workout slump – here’s how) and fill in the rest of my days with either a run or a long, decompressing walk. I typically work out in the morning, and right after my post-workout shower, I slip on the sandals to brush my teeth, make breakfast, do my skin-care routine, Oofos Outlet and get ready for the day. At that time, I can already feel my body start to relax into the shoe as if to say, “thank you.” I notice on the days I do a hard workout and don’t have time to come home and put the slides on, my feet start to ache and my lower back starts to tighten. So what’s the secret? The shoes are designed to be easy on your joints, and the patented footbed cradles and supports the arch of your foot to reduce exertion on the ankle — hence why my muscles and joints instantly feel better when I’m wearing them.
My mom has been wearing her Ooahh slides even longer and has made them a part of her wind-down routine. She called them “very comfy” and continued, “They are my go-to sandal after a long workday in boots and closed shoes.” And she’s absolutely right — you don’t need to work out intensely to have a reason for your feet to recover. As Deanne Robinson, MD, Kizik Sneakers a board-certified dermatologist, previously told Shape: “Your feet work hard for you all day [and] are oftentimes trapped in socks and shoes that don’t allow for a lot of air flow.” As someone with chronically sweaty feet, I can attest that the Oofos slides feel really breathable and give my feet a chance to breathe — which feels especially nice after being in sweaty sneakers.
Think about it: When is the last time you showed your tootsies some TLC? The Oofos Ooahh recovery sandals are an easy way to do so. Hey, they’re a lot cheaper than getting a foot massage every day, and they’ll feel just as good.
